The Difference Between a Niche & Profitable Niche
I’m sure you’ve heard many people say, you need to find your niche. Well, they’re half way right … You really want to find your profitable niche. A niche is a segment of any industry with a focused audience who are looking for a solution for their problem. Let’s break this down ….
Finding a niche as a an inspiring blogger, influencer, coach, internet marketer, network marketer, is about as important as remembering to take your passport on an overseas trip! If you don’t, you won’t get very far.
I’ve been in the ‘real world’ of marketing for more than 25 years and although lots of trends have come and the importance of finding your niche, and specifically finding a profitable niche is critical for success. In my experience, where entrepreneurs do best is selecting a niche and a sub niche that is connected to your passion, insights and talents – which I call your Zone of Genius!.
Let’s take a look at one of my favourite clients: Paws Mindfully. When they first came to me their business was Two Oily Em’s (aptly named after the business founders who shared their first name: Em). The pair described themselves as doTERRA Wellness Advocates with an essential oils business, but within a few minutes it was obvious that they were so much more. They were hard workers and had experienced some success, but were struggling to create consistent leads for their business and to then convert these precious contacts into paying customers.
The problem stood out like dogs you know whats! They had totally got their niche wrong and as a result all of their messaging, promotions and even products were missing the mark. You see they had a mad passion for dogs and helping their 4 legged friends and their owners to be cool, calm and content and these made up over 80% of their customer base. 80%!!!! Their Zone of Genius was their ability to help dog owners to find natural solutions for anxiety and stress for themselves and their fur babies. They weren’t in the essential oil industry, they were 100% in the pet industry and their purpose driven soul fulfilling niche was Dog owners with anxious dogs. Boom! Now we have a winner!!
Industry = Pets

Sub niche = Dog owners
Sub-Sub-niche = Dog owners with anxious dogs
Lets face it, when you start a business there is always a lot to take on board.
